What does a typical day in your role look like?
I work on a variety of projects and help troubleshoot problems related to developing new technology. Each day brings something different, depending on what systems we’re improving or testing.
How did you get into this role?
I’ve been around kiwifruit growing my whole life. When I returned to the family business, we began partnering to develop new technology that could make our systems more efficient.
Did you need to study for this role, if so, what did you study?
Studying can be helpful, but it’s not essential. I studied Operations, Economics and Marketing.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
I enjoy the flexibility and the mix of working both in the office and out in the field. Coming up with new, innovative systems keeps things exciting.
What’s something unique, surprising, or fun about your role or team?
Breaking and rebuilding new technology to make it better is always a good time—it’s part of the creative process.
What advice would you give someone interested in your role or career path?
Get to know the industry and understand the challenges it faces. That knowledge helps you come up with meaningful solutions.

Try lots of different things and always keep learning.
