Solution Architect
What does a typical day in your role look like?
I spend most of my time developing internal applications that help Seeka operate efficiently. I’m also the go-to person for Power BI reporting, supporting various departments by developing and maintaining reports. I track my current and upcoming work in Jira and assist other team members when needed.
How did you get into this role?
I applied for a Junior Software Developer role at Seeka in early 2024. After two rounds of interviews and a take-home assessment, I joined the Development Team, which had four other members at the time. In October last year, I was promoted to Technical Data Analyst. While my responsibilities now include more reporting and data analysis, I still spend about half my time doing software development.
Did you need to study for this role, if so, what did you study?
Yes. I studied for two years at Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology, completing a Level 6 Diploma in Software Development. I then transferred to Waikato University in Tauranga and studied for another two years toward a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Computer Science.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
I really enjoy the problem-solving aspect. I love being presented with a challenge and working through the entire process to create a solution that works.
What’s something unique, surprising, or fun about your role or team?
We have great banter in our team. There’s a lot of good-natured teasing and laughter—it makes the office a fun place to be.
What advice would you give someone interested in your role or career path?
While coding skills are important, they’re not everything. Skills can be taught, but attitude can’t. Often, your ability to work well in a team is what gets you hired. My advice is to put yourself out there socially and learn how to collaborate effectively with others.
