Senior Accountant
What does a typical day in your role look like?
Day to day, I prepare budgets and reports to track how the company is performing and ensure we’re following accounting and tax rules. My job is to make sure the numbers tell the true story of how Seeka is doing.
How did you get into this role?
I completed my Chartered Accountancy through one of the big four firms. After gaining a couple of years of experience, a recruiter approached me about this role—and I haven’t looked back!
Did you need to study for this role, if so, what did you study?
I did my CA, and before that, I completed a finance degree. It’s been useful for the job, but not strictly necessary.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
I love that my work connects directly to the real world. When I see kiwifruit in the supermarket or drive past an orchard or packhouse, I know the financial information I’ve produced has helped guide decisions in those places.
What’s something unique, surprising, or fun about your role or team?
Kiwifruit is New Zealand’s largest horticultural export—even bigger than wine! The industry is constantly evolving, and every day brings new challenges. There’s always something to improve or a new problem to solve.
What advice would you give someone interested in your role or career path?
The kiwifruit industry is full of exciting opportunities. If you’re good with numbers, get your CA done as soon as you can. And don’t underestimate the power of networking—you can start building those connections now!
