Sales Coordinator
What does a typical day in your role look like?
It depends on the time of year, but a typical day could involve visiting shareholders on orchard, answering technical questions, and working on crop protection and nutrition throughout the season. It’s a mix of fieldwork, problem-solving, and grower support.
How did you get into this role?
I was employed through the 2024/25 Farmlands Horticulture Summer Internship. After completing the internship, I was offered a full-time role in Te Puke with Farmlands.
Did you need to study for this role, if so, what did you study?
The internship was advertised to university undergraduates and graduates. I was finishing my Bachelor of Agricultural Science with a Minor in Marketing and Honours. It’s definitely helped—I use my degree a lot!
What do you enjoy most about your work?
I enjoy that no two days are the same, and I love the people in the industry. Everyone is welcoming and eager to share their knowledge, which makes learning and growing in the role really rewarding.
What’s something unique, surprising, or fun about your role or team?
Relationship building is a big part of the role. These relationships are built on trust, integrity, and a shared understanding of industry challenges, successes, and science. I especially enjoy learning directly from growers—hearing what drives their passion and why they’ve chosen this industry for their livelihoods.
What advice would you give someone interested in your role or career path?
“It is what you make it.” Nothing happens on its own—you need to put in the effort to build professional relationships across the industry. Being prompt, organised, and confident enough to say “I don’t know, but I’ll find out for you” are real strengths in this role.
