What does a typical day in your role look like?

You never really know what the day will bring. Some days everything runs smoothly and it’s pretty quiet. Other days are full-on and unpredictable — things can get a bit wild! That variety keeps things interesting.

How did you get into this role?

I came into the kiwifruit industry with a background in management, even though I’d never worked in horticulture before. I started as a line manager and quickly found that this is the most enjoyable industry I’ve ever worked in. The people, the pace, and the environment make it a great place to be.

Did you need to study for this role, if so, what did you study?

No.

What do you enjoy most about your work?

I really enjoy the unpredictability — especially during the main season. Every day is different, and that keeps things exciting. I also love meeting people from all over the world. You make lifelong friends and hear amazing stories. It’s a very social and rewarding job.

What’s something unique, surprising, or fun about your role or team?

The sheer size of the industry is surprising. You meet so many people from different backgrounds, and there’s always someone new to connect with. It’s a great way to build relationships and learn from others.

What advice would you give someone interested in your role or career path?

Go for it! If you’re someone who gets bored doing the same thing every day, this job is perfect. It’s fast-paced, unpredictable, and full of variety. You’ll never have a dull day.
