Orchard Worker
What does a typical day in your role look like?
I do a variety of jobs on the orchard—spraying guards, spreading fertilizer, harvesting fruit, thinning buds, and general orchard clean-up. Every day is a bit different depending on the season and what the orchard needs.
How did you get into this role?
It’s a family orchard, so I started helping out during the summer holidays.
Did you need to study for this role, if so, what did you study?
No.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
It’s hard work, but I enjoy being outside in nature instead of working indoors. It’s physical, hands-on, and gives me a sense of accomplishment.
What’s something unique, surprising, or fun about your role or team?
I get to work outside, often on my own, which means I can listen to music and enjoy the peaceful environment. It’s a nice change from being stuck inside all day.
What advice would you give someone interested in your role or career path?
Be ready to work hard and get stuck in. Put your name out there, be friendly to your co-workers, and be prepared to work as part of a team.
