What does a typical day in your role look like?

As the Creative Director at Design Juice, no two days are the same. I spend a lot of time communicating with clients, meeting with my team to discuss ongoing projects, and reviewing the designs they’ve been working on. I also write and design email newsletters. My role is primarily about overseeing the creative direction, both design and content to ensure everything we produce aligns with our clients’ goals.

How did you get into this role?

After completing my studies, I began my career as a graphic designer at the Waikato District Health Board. I later moved into an advertising agency, where I spent five years developing my skills and industry knowledge. That experience gave me the confidence to start Design Juice.

Did you need to study for this role, if so, what did you study?

Yes. To become a designer, I completed a Bachelor in Media Arts, majoring in Graphic Design. That education provided the foundation for the creative and technical skills I use daily.

What do you enjoy most about your work?

Definitely the variety and the people. The industry is constantly evolving—what used to be mostly print-focused is now centred around online marketing. That shift keeps the work fresh, interesting, and exciting.

What’s something unique, surprising, or fun about your role or team?

I never imagined I’d find a role I genuinely look forward to every day. I wake up excited to work with my clients and my team, and that’s something really special.

What advice would you give someone interested in your role or career path?

Don’t worry too much about AI. We use it a lot, and it’s a great tool, but it won’t replace graphic designers. Creativity, critical thinking, and human connection still matter and they always will.
