Schools & training / Careers / Lead Software Developer

Lead Software Developer

What does a typical day in your role look like?

We work in small teams on different software components that make up our full autonomous vehicle product. I’m part of the web and data team. I focus on control systems that instruct the vehicle on its tasks and manage the data the vehicles generate and send back to us.

How did you get into this role?

After university, I started working on web applications for major investment banks. That experience gave me a strong understanding of web systems. Robotics Plus hired me to develop control interfaces for their autonomous vehicles.

Did you need to study for this role, if so, what did you study?

Yes—Computer Science. But any computer or engineering degree can be helpful.

What do you enjoy most about your work?

I love that the problems we work on are complex and ground-breaking. It’s exciting to be part of something innovative.

What’s something unique, surprising, or fun about your role or team?

There’s constant exposure to unique challenges. You’re always learning, and there’s always something new to figure out—it keeps the work fresh and engaging.

What advice would you give someone interested in your role or career path?

Start solving problems—big or small. Get comfortable with challenges, and develop a process for identifying issues and working through solutions.

Anything else that you would like to add?

Learning and development don’t just happen at work. You can find problems all around you—pick one and find a solution.
