Food Safety & Compliance Manager
What does a typical day in your role look like?
I manage the Quality Assurance team at EastPack, monitor auditing activities, and visit sites to ensure our Quality and Food Safety standards are consistently followed in daily operations. I also review fruit quality results both onshore and offshore, implement risk management strategies, and support Quality Managers across the business with compliance matters.
How did you get into this role?
I worked my way up through the ranks, starting as a packer in the packhouse. Over the years, I’ve held nearly every quality-related role — grader, quality controller, Quality Manager, Internal Auditor — before stepping into my current position.
Did you need to study for this role, if so, what did you study?
I completed a Horticulture Postharvest Level 5 qualification in New Zealand and also hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology from overseas.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
Every day is different. One day I might be developing new procedures, and the next I could be on the floor focusing on fruit quality or food safety. The variety keeps things interesting.
What’s something unique, surprising, or fun about your role or team?
The scope of my role is quite broad — I’m responsible for Global GAP, Food Safety, Quality Systems, and Organic programmes. That variety makes the work both challenging and rewarding.
What advice would you give someone interested in your role or career path?
