Coolstore Operations Lead
What does a typical day in your role look like?
It’s always changing! Some days are full-on, loading as many trucks as we can. Other days involve computer work to make sure all the loads are ready for export. Sometimes it’s more basic — hunting down pallets and moving them around the cool store. There’s always something to do.
How did you get into this role?
I started in the packhouse and wanted to grow my skills, so I got my forklift licence and moved into cool store roles. From there, I progressed into container loadouts, where I’m learning even more. Whenever a new opportunity comes up to learn something new, I put my hand up straight away.
Did you need to study for this role, if so, what did you study?
Yes — I studied the Zespri Loadout Manual, completed my CCP6, and got my MPI certification for avocados.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
The social side of the job. I get to work with lots of different people, and that makes the day more enjoyable.
What’s something unique, surprising, or fun about your role or team?
No two days are the same. You never know what kind of challenges will pop up, and that keeps things interesting. It makes the day go by quickly and keeps you on your toes.
What advice would you give someone interested in your role or career path?
Don’t be afraid to start small and learn as you go. Confidence builds with practice. It’s not just about moving pallets — it’s about being part of a team that keeps everything running smoothly.
